A domestic incident that happened on December 7, 2025, at Baymeadows sent both parties to jail after a midnight altercation, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. The report says that two officers were dispatched to a Baymeadows Drive East address in reference to a domestic dispute. A 46-year-old Douglas woman was arrested and charged with battery (family violence) after she allegedly hit a man in the head with a candle during an argument over missing money. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on December 1, 2025, at around 1:30 p.m., a deputy responded to a domestic call on Quincey Batten Loop. The complainant dialed 911, screamed the address into the phone but didn’t give any further information. The Douglas Police Department is searching for the suspect in the December 11, 2025, non-fatal shooting that took place at the intersection of North Pearl Avenue and Wilson Street in Douglas. Zion Ja’Quan Smith is wanted on aggravated assault charges in connection with the shooting. He is 5’9”, 252 pounds and was last seen driving a black 2008 Ford F-150. A 27-year-old Douglas man allegedly started off the morning of December 7, 2025, with a bang – and he ended up in jail as a result. According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on December 7 at around 8 a.m., an officer responded to a Cutter Road address and spoke with a female complainant. Region 2-5A’s Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets brought South Georgia a second state football championship Wednesday night with a 62-21 win over the Gainesville Red Elephants at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets were one of the early season favorites to win a state title and spent most of the year at the #2 spot behind Langston Hughes. A mother and her son have been arrested and charged with charges related to insurance fraud in an investigation that goes back to 2022 in Lowndes County. Horace Kelly, 39, was arrested on October 23, 2025, by officers from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. Greta Patterson, 62, was arrested December 15, 2025, by deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released. The South Georgia State College Hawks went 1-1 at the annual B-Mac’s Christmas Classic tournament in Waycross. The Hawks fell to Santa Fe 77-68 on Friday but bounced back to defeat Motlow State Community College 94-84 on Saturday. A 19-year-old Douglas woman found herself in jail on burglary charges after she allegedly broke into her ex-boyfriend’s house to get some of her belongings, according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office.
