The CCA Lady Patriots defeated the First Preparatory Christian Academy Highlanders by a combined score of 32-0 in a double header Monday in Hinesville. In game one, CCA scored six in the first, five in the second, and sixth in the third. Brilynn Waldron, Emy Lowery, Gracie Giddens, Cadence Cravey, Abrah Harris, and Arabelle Roberts each had two hits. Giddens homered, Waldron tripled, and Maci Rucker, Waldron, Roberts, Cravey, and Lowery all doubled. Lowery threw a three-inning no-hitter and was a walk away from a perfect game. Officers are investigating an armed robbery that took place in Broxton earlier this evening. An unknown number of assailants entered Broxton Package on Highway 441 just north of town. They escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and injured a store employee in the process. The employee was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. After robbing the store, the assailants jumped into a vehicle and fled north on Highway 441 toward Telfair County. Officers are continuing to gather evidence and work the crime scene. Weaving on a bicycle is a crime? Apparently so. On September 14, 2024, at around 3:40 p.m., a Douglas police officer observed a female, identified as Claudean Williams, 45, of Douglas, allegedly failing to maintain her lane on a bicycle. According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, she was weaving back and forth across the entire road. The officer stopped her at the intersection of Spooner Road and Irma Avenue. On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the GBI arrested Brandi Steverson, age 48, of Douglas, GA, with Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder. On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the GBI was requested by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office after a concerned citizen reported that Steverson had asked them about hiring a hitman to kill her husband. A 19-year-old Douglas man remains in jail on several charges, including aggravated assault, after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in a vehicle at Eastside Park at around 3:30 a.m. on September 11, 2024. Douglas police officers interviewed the victim at Coffee Regional Medical Center, where she was receiving treatment for injuries she suffered in the alleged incident. An individual who was in court Thursday for a child custody hearing fled the courthouse after learning he had an active misdemeanor bench warrant. The subject, identified as Brandon Anthony Morgan, was apprehended a short distance away without incident, according to a release from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday, units from multiple agencies converged on the courthouse after Morgan fled.
