The CCA Patriots’ trip to Cocoa Beach, Florida has been a productive one so far. Thursday, the Patriots defeated the East Carter Raiders 6-4 and the Dixie Greyhounds 9-5. CCA scored all six of its runs in the first two innings against East Carter, plating three in each frame. It was enough to hold off the Raiders, who had scored two in the first then added a run in the sixth and seventh. Blake Bryant led the way offensively for CCA, going 2-3 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored. He also had the Patriots’ only extra base hit of…
If you’re going to allegedly flee a vehicle after you crash it, remember to grab your wallet. A 33-year-old Douglas man, Jordan Ray Porter, was arrested and briefly jailed after he allegedly crashed a vehicle on Rebecca Waldron Road then left the scene, leaving his wallet behind in the wrecked car. Officers responded to the scene, found the wallet, and then went to Porter’s home, where he was arrested. The incident report from the sheriff’s office states that an individual noticed an overturned vehicle in the area of 2707 Rebecca S. Waldron Road on March 30, 2024, around 3:15 a.m.…

Several days later, she was arrested again on an unrelated charge and remains jailed. The March 25 incident took place at a mobile home park on Highway 32 West. A busted tail light and a rolling stop landed two men in jail last week. And they’re still there. Detectives stopped the vehicle, which had two people inside. The driver was identified as Spencer Rogers, 28, of Sparks. The passenger was identified as Andrew Ballard, 32, who is listed as homeless. Rogers was on probation; as such,…
If you have to stay home and play baseball during Spring Break, you may as well make it count. And that’s exactly what the Coffee Trojans did Tuesday against the Bradwell Institute Tigers. The Trojans dismantled the Tigers 15-0 in three innings. How efficient was Coffee? Every Trojan reached base and starting pitcher Michael Strickland threw a 34-pitch complete game. He allowed just two hits and struck out four. The only Coffee player who didn’t get a hit was senior centerfielder Zae Smith. But then again, he didn’t have much of a chance. What he did have, though, was a…
Last week’s three-game region series against the Ware County Gators was a mixed bag for the Coffee Trojans. They came away with a dominating 16-6 win in game three but dropped the first two games of the series. The Trojans are 16-5 overall (5-4 in region) and sitting in third place behind Greenbrier and Ware. Last Tuesday, the Trojans stumbled in game one, losing 1-0 at Ware. Coffee managed just three hits. Junior Michael Strickland scattered six hits over six innings. He gave up one unearned run and struck out nine. He pitched well enough to win but the Trojan…
he Coffee High Trojans competed in the Hiram Johnson Underclassmen Invitational on March 28, 2024. This meet is for 8th grade through tenth grade student athletes. This allows the younger athletes to shine against athletes closer to their own age and assist in developing stronger track teams. Another significant reason is to recognize Coach Hiram Johnson who graduated from George Washington Carver High Schools in Coffee County. Coach Johnson has retired from the Lowndes County School System completing forty years in education and coaching football and track. The Lady Trojans claimed second place out of 8 schools. The Lady Trojans…
Cryptocurrency mining is coming to downtown Douglas. The City of Douglas is expected to reach an agreement with Hampshire Andersen Financial Division’s digital currency branch to bring a second cryptocurrency mine to the city. There is already one crypto mine located near the intersection of Brantley Boulevard and Pinecrest Drive on the south end of the city. This latest mine, however, is slated for the heart of downtown — specifically the pocket park located on Madison Avenue behind Eve and across from the east side of Norris Shoes. Plans include de-commissioning the pocket park and placing the mine on the…
It’s been a tough week or so for the South Georgia State College Hawks. Since defeating the Andrew College Tigers 14-9 at home on March 19, the Hawks have lost six of their last seven games — all to conference opponents. Their lone win over that span came yesterday when the defeated the Gordon State College Highlanders 1-0 in game one of a double-header on the SGSC campus. How did game two go? The Hawks lost 21-6 thanks in large part to a 12-run second inning. Game one of the double-header was a pitcher’s duel in the truest sense. The…
