Atlanta bail bondsman Scott Hall, 59, has pleaded guilty for his involvement in the 2020 Fulton County election interference case. Hall is the first of the 19 defendants who were indicted in August to plead guilty. Hall was one of the individuals who came to the Coffee County elections office in January of 2021 to copy election information. Surveillance video shows Hall entering the Coffee County office. Coffee running back Fred Brown is having one of the best seasons of any back in the state. Currently, five games in, Brown is ranked #7 in the state in rushing with 827 yards on 120 carries. Brown, a 5’10”, 200 pound senior who was Friday night’s Player of the Game, is also leading 5A in rushing and is ranked 241st in the nation, according to MaxPreps. Wendell Stone, chairman of the Coffee County Board of Elections and Registration, has resigned from the board. The Coalition for Good Governance, an election security organization that has been very vocal regarding the Coffee County election breaches that took place in January of 2021, insisted that Stone resign in a petition it released last week. The CGG alleged that Stone was ineligible to serve on the board because he also works part-time for South Georgia State College, which is a violation of the election board’s by-laws. Letrelle Spires, 81, who was reported missing on Wednesday, September 20, was found Thursday not far from her home. She was discovered deceased not far from her vehicle, a grey BMW SUV. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office released a missing person’s alert regarding Mrs. Spires around 7:30 p.m. that Wednesday. Friday morning, South Georgia State College’s Dylan Dixon of Alma won the Fort Valley State University Cross Country Opener and Alex Uribe of Hazlehurst finished second overall in the women’s race. Two other Hawks — Jarvis Weaver and Perla Hernandez — also finished in the top 10. Fort Valley State’s race featured a multi-lap flat, fast course located a few west of I-75. Barney Fife has been avenged. Two weeks ago, a person or persons vandalized the mural of Barney Fife that adorns the side of an unoccupied house on Highway 441 in Broxton. The Broxton Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the incident. According to officers, 18-year-old Kayson Smalley has been arrested and charged with second degree criminal damage to property for allegedly vandalizing the mural. Once again, the top performers in last week’s game between the Coffee Trojans and the Bolles Bulldogs were senior running back Fred Brown and junior linebacker Jyarius Carter. Coffee won 17-9 in the Border Classic in Brunswick. Brown led the team in rushing with 109 yards on 24 carries. However, for the first time all season, Brown did not find the end zone. In May, two employees of Burger King, both of whom were teenagers, were charged in connection with debit card theft. The charges against one of the teens, Zyikieus Tashun Riles, 17, have since been dismissed. The other defendant, a 16-year-old juvenile, entered an admissions to the charges in July and his case was adjudicated then. According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, they allegedly took pictures of a customer’s credit card at the drive-through then used the card information to attempt to make nine purchases totaling $1,303.
