The Coffee Trojans defeated the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes in 2025’s preseason scrimmage at Jardine Stadium. The junior varsity squads played the first quarter; the Trojans won that quarter 13-0. The teams reset the scoreboard for the second quarter and the varsity units played each other for the remainder of the game. The score was 0-0 at halftime and 6-3 at the end of the third quarter. Coffee ended up winning the game 12-10. The Trojans are off next week before welcoming the Bainbridge Bearcats to town for the regular season opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

A Douglas police officer arrested a 63-year-old woman on drug charges after he heard her screaming and attempting to take her clothes off around 1 a.m. on July 21, 2025. The incident report states that the officer was patrolling the area of East College Park Drive and Mark Hannah Street when the officer heard a woman screaming. The officer approached the woman’s house and found the female, identified as Karen McKinnon, 63, of Douglas, screaming and taking her shirt off. Two of the drivers involved in a three-car accident Sunday afternoon on the Willacoochee Highway were cited for DUI. One individual was transported from the scene with visible but non-life-threatening injuries. According to an accident report from the Georgia State Patrol, Robin Cummings of Orlando was driving an EZ-Go golf cart north on the Willacoochee Highway when the vehicle turned left in front of a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Larry Joel Squires of Douglas, who was traveling south. Dockery, a Republican, currently lives in Waycross and teaches at Pierce County Middle School. The District 176 seat is currently held by Waycross attorney and fellow Republican James Burchett. On July 21, 2025, an individual who was allegedly driving a vehicle with a suspended registration and no insurance on a suspended license led officers on a chase – directly to her house. According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, an officer saw a 2013 Kia Optima in the Jet store on Southwest Bowens Mill Road. The officer ran the Kia’s plate and it came back as having a suspended registration and no insurance. The owner, identified as Angie Johnson, 45, of Douglas, also had a suspended license. For the third time in nine weeks, Christopher Brent Johnson, 44, has been arrested and jailed. This latest incident, which took place on July 24, 2025, involves the most serious allegations of the three incidents. Johnson was released after the first two arrests. This time, however, he remains in jail. On Thursday, July 24, 2025, at approximately 2:55 a.m., detectives with the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit conducted a traffic stop on Johnson. Brian Kemp’s office as an intern and recently finished fifth in the ABA client counseling competition. Davis’s loss came at the hands of the eventual competition champions. On July 17, 2025, deputies arrested a man who allegedly used a family member’s debit and credit card without her permission. The incidents happened between June 14-23 and were reported to the sheriff’s office on July 3, 2025. The victim went to the sheriff’s office to report the crimes. A 30-year-old from Broxton was arrested and charged with misuse of 911, along with other charges, after she allegedly called 911 and verbally abused operators after a deputy would not arrest her neighbor. According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on July 17, 2025, at 6:50 a.m., a deputy responded to the Aden’s on Alabama Street in Broxton to meet with Ashley Brooke Anthony, 30, of Broxton. The plaintiffs who have filed suit seeking an injunction against the proposed 60-house commercial poultry farm in southern Coffee County have notched an early victory. It’s a small victory but it’s a victory nonetheless. Thursday, Judge Kelly Brooks, the presiding judge in the case, issued a 30-day injunction ceasing all physical development of the property. Judge Brooks also issued a second order establishing a date for a hearing on the matter.
