Douglas police officers are still looking for the suspect in a Tuesday afternoon shooting that took place on Mark Hanna Street in Douglas. Around 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting on Mark Hanna, just a few blocks from the George Washington Carver Freshman Academy. The victim had been shot twice — once in the back and once in the leg. He was reportedly sitting in a vehicle at the time of the shooting and was shot at least once through the window. Wednesday afternoon, a Coffee County jury convicted Kendrick Mizell, 29, of murdering Antravious Johnson, 22. Johnson was killed on Feb. 28, 2021, at the 900 block of South Gaskin Avenue in Douglas. Authorities had alleged that Johnson was sitting in the driver’s side of a vehicle on South Gaskin Avenue when Mizell walked up to the vehicle and began shooting. Johnson was hit in the head, back, and hand. Mizell was identified as a suspect almost immediately following Johnson’s death. He was arrested in March of 2021 without incident in Ware County with the assistance of…

A person of interest in the February disappearance of Maria Diaz, 29, is in custody, according to officers with the Douglas Police Department. Guillermo Delacruz-Morales, 42, is being held in the Coffee County Jail on firearms charges. He was arrested on March 23, 2023. Investigators believe that Delacruz-Morales had been in an intimate relationship with Diaz for over a year. Almost a week after Delacruz-Morales’s arrest, officers from the police department and other agencies searched an area on East Ethel Street known as The Compound. Investigators searched The Compound extensively but did not find anything related to Diaz’s…

Patrick Emanual Jackson, 34, who was out of jail on bond on illegal drug charges, is back in jail after detectives discovered large quantities of suspected illegal drugs at his home, according to the incident report. The investigation ended up at his home as a result of a traffic stop. On April 19, 2023, drug unit detectives conducted a traffic stop in Douglas. Jackson was a passenger in the vehicle and detectives knew he had an outstanding probation warrant, according to an incident report.
