Coffee County 4-H has been busy this summer. On June 5, thirty-three fifth and sixth graders traveled to Jekyll 4-H Center for a fun week of Cloverleaf Camp.They enjoyed five days of fun at the beach, environmental education, and exploring island and marsh life. The days were spent participating in a variety of outdoor activities such as beach swimming, biking, canoeing, hiking, competing in relay races, seining, dancing, hunting for sand dollars, hermit crabs, and periwinkle snails, and of course eating lots of snow cones and Icees. Earlier this month, a two-year-old child was treated in Savannah after testing positive for methamphetamine while allegedly in the care of a babysitter. The incident happened in Jeff Davis County. On Thursday, July 6, 2023, Jeff Davis County criminal investigators initiated an investigation after learning that a two-year-old child was rushed to Savannah hospital and ultimately tested positive for methamphetamine allegedly under the care of a babysitter. After an investigation into the matter, investigators executed a search warrant the following day at the home of the babysitter where large quantities of methamphetamine and firearms were discovered inside. …

The City of Douglas has been awarded the Walmart’s Local Community Grant courtesy of the local Walmart (Facility #593) in the amount of $1,000. The city obtained this funding through a commitment to quality-of-life improvements in Douglas. The grant will aid in purchasing a portable weather-resistant stage for the pocket park.
