Christine McLean, age 87, of Broxton, GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17th, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA. She was born on August 30th, 1937, the daughter of James Byron Brannon and Edna Earl Peebles. Coffee High School traveled to Albany, Georgia to travel to participate in the L.C. Smith & Winfred Benson Relays. The Lady Trojans scored 47 points and Trojans scored 43 points. A mother and her boyfriend who are charged in connection with the death of a four-year-old girl in Lyons made their first court appearance Monday after being arrested over the weekend. According to a press release issued by Toombs County Sheriff Jordan Kight, Seth Hunter Brown, 26, and Taylor Marie Hughes, 29, appeared before Superior Court Judge Robert Reeves in connection to the death of Hughes’s daughter, Reese Hughes. At the request of the Hazlehurst Police Department, GBI agents are investigating the death of Gary Ryals, age 19, of Hazlehurst, GA. On Monday, March 10, 2025, the Hazlehurst Police Department responded to the Circle K at 100 E. Jarman Street in Hazlehurst to reports of a shooting. Officers arrived and found Ryals with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. This investigation is active and ongoing.
