Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation awarded multiple scholarships to help students complete their education and workforce skills for the Summer Semester. Recipients from the Coffee campus were awarded a scholarship made possible because of generous college supporters.  The scholarships will help pay for tuition, fees, books, and/or supplies needed for their programs. The scholarships were merit-based and applicants had to complete an application and provide letters of support. Satilla Riverkeeper and a team of dedicated volunteers conduct water quality sampling at numerous public landings on the Satilla River Water Trail.  During the summer months, water quality samples are taken every 2 weeks. The most recent testing took place within the last 30 days. The data is also recorded at the GaEPD Adopt A Stream website https://adoptastream.georgia.gov/ as well as at SwimGuide. Recently, CRMC recognized Allison Dorsey, its BEE Award honoree for the 1st quarter of 2024. Allison is a dedicated member of the Social Services team. Wiregrass Tech has signed the college’s first Paramedic Registered Apprentices on the Coffee Campus. The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and its 22 technical colleges serve as Registered Apprenticeship sponsors making it the largest Registered Apprenticeship network in the state. Wiregrass Paramedic student, Joshua Branch, signed with Atkinson County EMS. Paramedicine students Corey Carver, William Clements, Tiffani Ellis, and Jenny Medders all signed with Coffee Regional Medical Center. Citizens Christian Academy student London O’Steen has been named a recipient of the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) Scholarship. O’Steen is one of two graduating seniors statewide selected to receive a $4,500 GFA scholarship. Eight other graduating seniors were awarded $3,000 scholarships. A 17-year-old male has been arrested for shooting a 17-year-old female in the throat, according to officials with the Douglas Police Department. They have released the following statement: On June 8, 2024, at approximately 2:57 p.m., officers with the Douglas Police Department were dispatched to the Jamestown Drive area in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, identified as a 17-year-old female, who had been shot in the throat. Immediate medical attention was administered and the victim was transported by EMS to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment.
