The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Fatality Review Unit hosted an event on Thursday, Jan. 19, to announce the planned distribution of 300 demonstration dolls to law enforcement agencies throughout the state for use in the investigation of serious child injury and/or death cases. The dolls are the approximate dimensions of a 3-month old baby and are a realistic tool for investigators in reenacting and photographing incident scenes. South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) O’Showen Williams has been named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I Player of the Week. A 5’11” freshman from Macon, Ga., Williams averaged 24 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in conference games against Central Georgia Tech and Gordon State. For the season, Williams is averaging 15.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. He is third overall in assists (90) and fifth in free throw percentage (78.6). Mr. John Henry “Pee Wee” Merritt, age 82, of Ambrose passed away, Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, following a short illness. He was born July 22, 1934 to the late Ira Merritt and the late Pearlie Smith Merritt. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Merritt Glenn. After reading Not A Box by Antoinette Portis, students used boxes to make a snowman. As a family project, students and parents used their imaginations to create something from a box. The South Georgia State College Hawks overcame a 14-point deficit in the first half Wednesday night and held on to beat the East Georgia State Bobcats 80-74. The Hawks (14-3, 2-1) were held to 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the game and quickly found themselves trailing 24-10. Reminiscent of earlier games this season, the Hawks generated a 28-12 scoring run to take a 38-36 lead into the locker room.
