Coffee Middle School has luminaries and torches available to purchase for Relay for Life again this year. These lights will line the track at the event on April 29, and the names of your loved ones who have fought or are still fighting the cancer battle will be called out one by one to give them honor and respect. There are white bags for $5, gold bags for $25, and torches for $50. You get to keep the torch as a keepsake, and it will be delivered to you during the first week in May. After two successful seasons playing for the South Georgia State College (SGSC) Lady Hawks, Amy Latner has signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career with Warner University in Lake Mary, Fla. Latner is from Thomasville, Ga., where she attended Thomasville High School and played for the Bulldogs softball team. Latner has been the starting catcher for both her freshman and sophomore seasons at SGSC. She has been a standout on the field as well as in the classroom. Eastside Elementary School is proud to announce Mrs. Angelina Brown Koster as their 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year. The Douglas City Cemetery Advisory Board recently received approval from the mayor and commissioners to establish an area in which to scatter cremains. Prior to now, the cemetery had no area established for cremains scattering, and the board will now move forward to create a scatter garden, which will be known as the Olive Garden. Other cemeteries throughout Georgia in recent years have opened areas to scatter cremated remains. These areas are called scattering gardens, and they provide choices for personal memorization within this dedicated area.
