Mrs. Lucille Shrouder Teston, age 81, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following a short illness. She was born December 4, 1933, to the late Jessie J. “Jim” Shrouder and the late Donnie Whiddon Shrouder. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is pleased to announce the summer 2015 commencement is scheduled for August 5, 2015. The ceremony will be held at the Grand Theatre in Fitzgerald at 10 a.m. This semester, Wiregrass has 248 students graduating with 206 technical certificates, 170 diplomas, and 74 degree programs. Wiregrass will be sharing the story of a single mother of two who returned to school while working a full-time job, balancing 450 hours of clinicals and 75 internship hours, to earn her Associates of Applied Science Degree in Paramedicine. Carey F. Lott, age 60 of Douglas, passed away on Saturday, July 25, at home following a brief illness. Carey was born December 26, 1954 to Gwendolyn Royal Lott and the late Allen Francis Lott. Satilla Regional Library System had Mr. Ron Collins perform his Tampa Taiko Drumming show for its final Summer Reading Program performance of 2015 on Wednesday, July 22. There was an ice cream party immediately following both performances. Mr. Collins talked about how his drums were made, the history of different Japanese instruments including the Shakuhachi, a Japanese bamboo flute, and the history of Taiko drumming. He brought his Shakuhachi and demonstrated tunes to the audience and introduced new Japanese words, while tying them in with existing words that are commonly used that are of Japanese origin. Satilla Regional Library System had a fun and exciting 2015 Summer Reading Program with theme “Every Hero Has a Story!” that started Monday, June 1, and went through Thursday, July 23. There were many great performances that included juggling, magic, balloons, the zoo, theatre, folk music and storytelling, and taiko drumming. There were also teddy bear picnics, mid-summer prizes of two passes each for two winners to Wild Adventures Theme Park, and grand prizes of a $ 50 Wal-Mart gift card and an Apple I-Pad Mini; with a winner for each prize.
