Dorothy Eloise Miller, age 74, of Douglas, GA passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Miller was born on January 29, 1941, in Pearson, GA to the late Bennie Lee Anderson and Elzie Davis Anderson. The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the City of Douglas Police Department would like to bring public awareness and educate citizens about domestic violence. Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) began from the “Day of Unity” held in October 1981 and was conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was held, and that year also brought about the first domestic violence toll-free hotline. The fall softball season is underway at South Georgia State College, and the Lady Hawks are looking ahead to next spring with confidence. “The girls are putting in a great amount of work to prepare themselves for a successful spring season,” said head coach Nichole Levering. “I have no doubt they will perform and exceed expectations.” Levering is counting on the solid group of eight returning sophomores to guide the newcomers in the program. Sarah Brown is a member of the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is the Marketing Committee Chair for the 2014-2015 term. Sarah is married to Jason Brown, who is employed by Wal-Mart Transportation here in Douglas, Ga. They have two children: Weston – 8 and Emelia Jane- 6. Both children attend Eastside Elementary, the same school Sarah attended growing up. The week of October 4-10 will be Fire Prevention Week, Natural Gas Week, and Public Power Week. This week will be filled with activities designed to educate and show appreciation for City of Douglas customers.
