Charlotte Lillian Stevens, age 69, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Stevens was born on September 5, 1945, in Detroit, MI to the late Charles Henry Gies and Cecelia Michon Gies. The South Georgia State College swim teams opened their season last Saturday with a strong showing in their home invitational meet. SGSC’s women won the four-team meet in a convincing fashion amassing 302 points to second place Darton State College’s 115. The men finished a close second to Darton by a score 246 to 200. Gov. Nathan Deal has proclaimed the week of Nov. 10-14 as a time to recognize the contribution of school psychology in the education of Georgia’s children. In Coffee County, there are three school psychologists assigned to serve in the schools. School psychologists provide a wide variety of services, including evaluating children and assisting teachers and administrators by providing information about students’ intellectual, academic, social and emotional needs. Additional services include counseling and crisis intervention. Training currenly requires approximately three years of intensive graduate work and field experience in addition to meeting state certification requirements. The Douglas Police Department and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (Douglas) are glad to announce another offering of the women’s handgun safety course. The course will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The morning session will consist of classroom time at the Wiregrass Douglas campus and the afternoon will be spent at the range where each participant will recieve one-on-one instruction.
