Around 7:30 p.m. on February 20, 2025, a deputy made a traffic stop on a white Nissan Murano. During the stop, the deputy searched the vehicle and found a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. The driver, identified as James Wesley McDermitt, 30, of Ambrose, was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail.
According to an incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling in Oak Park when he saw the Murano roll through a stop sign. The deputy stopped the vehicle and found that McDermitt was on parole for several past offenses, including possession of methamphetamine. During the stop, McDermitt said he did not have any contraband on his person and he gave the deputy consent to search the Murano.
During the search, the deputy discovered a folded paper plate that contained suspected methamphetamine. The deputy performed a field test and the substance came back positive for meth. McDermitt was arrested and charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and possession of methamphetamine. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail where he remains.
