Douglas Rotary Club members learned more about how a local non-profit organization has worked for the past thirty years to enhance visual and performing arts offerings in Coffee County. Long-time educator JoAnn Danaa, President of the Coffee Alliance for the Arts, and fellow Board Member Lisa Tierney presented at the April 2, 2026 meeting at South Georgia State College. They thanked the Rotarians for their generous support of the group.
Both Ms. Danna and Ms. Tierney discussed the free Munch and Music concerts held each Wednesday in April from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Square Gym Field (between the library and Weir Center). Desserts and drinks sold during these concerts help support the Missoula Children’s Theater camp for local children ages 6-17. Children will attend the free camp June 15-20 at the Coffee High School Performing Arts Center. At the completion of the camp, the newly-trained thespians will hold two performances of the Frog Prince on June 20th at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The Coffee Alliance for the Arts also supports drama programs at Coffee High School and awards one $500 college scholarship annually to a deserving student seeking to pursue a creative arts major. The Alliance also hosts Coffee High School Arts Week with this year’s theme being “Focus on America 250.” Students and their families interested in learning more about the summer theater camp or other activities are encouraged to call Ms. Danna at 912-381-4281.
