A trio of Hawks had three hits and two SGSC pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout Tuesday in a dominating 22-0, run-rule shortened win over the East Georgia State College Bobcats at Crider Field in Douglas.
SGSC set the tone early with a 16-run second inning. Diego Gonzales doubled, scoring two runs; Tanner Langley singled, scoring two runs; Danny Vigille-grant singled, scoring one run; Steven Tavares-Batista singled, scoring one run; Brice Marchman walked, scoring one run; Diego Gonzales singled, scoring one run; Gavin Hamrick doubled, driving in a pair; Payton Bryant drove in one on a sacrifice fly; Vigille-grant singled again, driving in two more; Jesse Brown doubled, scoring two runs; and Tavares-Batista finished the rally another RBI single.
Luke Smith (six innings, two hits, seven strikeouts, two walks) and Blake Hughes (one inning, one walk, one strikeout) combined for a 107-pitch two-hit shutout.
Vigille-grant (3-4, three runs, three RBI), Brown (3-3, three runs, two RBI, one walk), and Gonzales (3-5, four RBI, two runs) led the Hawks offensively.
The Hawks are 21-14 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. They are on a three-game winning streak and have won four out of their last five games. Thursday, they travel to Swainsboro for another game against East Georgia. Saturday, the Bobcats return to Crider Field for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
