On June 26, 2026, a 52-year-old female was booked into the Coffee County Jail on charges of illegally practicing law.
According to a sheriff’s office report, on June 23, 2026, a detective was notified about an individual possibly engaging in the unauthorized practice of law. The detective reviewed court documents and identified Cynthia Davalos as the suspect.
On June 25, the detective spoke with Davalos, who is a notary public. The report states that Davalos stated that she has been a notary for four years and assists members of the Hispanic community who may not speak English well. In this particular instance, a female was going through a divorce and Davalos allegedly assisted the woman with paperwork, including creating a parenting plan, child support documents, and the like. The report says that Davalos stated that she did not know that she couldn’t fill out the paperwork for the woman. Davalos also allegedly received payment for her services.
The report states the following: “Based on the affidavit, court testimony, witness statements, and admissions made by Cynthia Davalos during her interview, probable cause exists to believe that [she] engaged in the unauthorized practice of law by preparing legal documents, providing legal guidance, and accepting compensation for those services while not being licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia.”
Davalos was arrested and charged with unauthorized practice of law. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and released on a $1,500 property bond.
