The Coffee County Board of Education has announced the hiring of Lee Mobley as the next Superintendent of the Coffee County School System. The announcement was made during tonight’s regular monthly board meeting by Board Chairman Jesse Jowers following a unanimous vote by the five board members. Mobley will officially take office on July 1, following the retirement of current Superintendent Dr. Morris Leis. Mr. Mobley currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Operations for the Coffee County School System.
Lee Mobley is a Coffee County native and a dedicated educator with over 27 years of experience shaping the academic and operational landscape of his home community. Since returning to his roots in 2001, Mr. Mobley has become a cornerstone of the district’s leadership team, driven by a foundational belief that meaningful relationships are the most critical tool for successful learning.
A 1992 graduate of Coffee High School, Mr. Mobley began his post-secondary education at South Georgia College before attending Valdosta State University. There, he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership. He launched his career in 1998 in Lowndes County before returning home in 2001 to serve as Assistant Principal at West Coffee Middle School.
Over the past two decades, Mr. Mobley has served the Coffee County family as a teacher, principal, and district leader. His tenure as a building administrator is defined by high expectations and measurable success. During Mobley’s five-year tenure as principal of Broxton-Mary Hayes Elementary School, the school earned the prestigious Governor’s School of Distinction award for academic excellence. Mobley served as principal of Satilla Elementary School for ten years, where he fostered a culture of deep community engagement. The school was recognized multiple years for “Beating the Odds” in academic performance, and Mobley and his staff and students achieved a Guinness World Record.
As the current Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Operations, Mr. Mobley has played a key role in planning the district’s long-term growth. He has been heavily involved in developing and executing the current Five-Year Strategic Plan, as well as the Five-Year Facilities Plan, ensuring the district’s infrastructure remains aligned with evolving educational goals.
Beyond operations, he has spearheaded several transformative district initiatives:
The CHOICES Program (2004–2026): Mr. Mobley co-developed this vital program to support students and families navigating the Juvenile Justice System through targeted intervention in anger management, conflict resolution, communication skills, and impulse control.
Capturing Kids’ Hearts: Mobley led the district-wide rollout and implementation of this initiative, championing relationship-building practices to strengthen school culture.
Leadership Development: Mobley also co-launched an initiative to build professional capacity among aspiring and current administrators through innovative micro-learning experiences.
Known for “reaching beyond the walls” of school buildings, Mr. Mobley is committed to meeting families where they are to build lasting trust. His career is defined by a steadfast dedication to operational excellence, intentional servant leadership, and a desire to unify the system’s schools and community.
