Halloween magic is in the air and Douglas is ready to welcome trick-or-treaters with open arms and glowing porch lights. Before the costumes come out and candy is collected, the City and Police Department urge families to keep safety top of mind while trick-or-treating this year. As a reminder, the city has recommended that trick-or-treating in the city limits take place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, 6p.m.-8p.m. The City of Douglas and Douglas Police Department asks that parents not allow their kids to be out past 8:00 pm or dark in neighborhoods. While trick-or-treating, please be mindful of these safety tips: …
Coffee County high school football fans should take note of a little gridiron history that has been made this season. For the first time, two local high school football teams will play postseason games in the same season. The Coffee Trojans earned a playoff berth Friday night with their win over the Veterans Warhawks. The CCA Patriots had almost certainly clinched a playoff spot regardless of the outcome of their final regular season game against the Westwood Academy Wildcats. Westwood defeated CCA, which probably wouldn’t be enough to knock the Patriots out of a postseason spot. But no one would…
If you’re going to flip the script on an opponent, there’s no better time to do it than when a championship is on the line. And that’s exactly what the South Georgia State College Hawks did on their home field Saturday afternoon against the Gordon State College Highlanders. The two teams had met twice this season and had split with each other with the visiting team winning both times. Saturday, the Highlanders came to Douglas for the championship game of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association soccer championship. This time, the home team won. The Hawks defeated the Highlanders 5-1 and…
There isn’t a lot of current CCA football history from which to pull. The Patriots had football in the 70s, for one year in the mid-2000s (2006), then began a varsity program again last year. For all intents and purposes, CCA has had a team for just two seasons. So when we say that a game is the most important game in the Patriots’ history, take it with a grain of salt. With that said, Friday night’s game against the #7-ranked Westwood Wildcats of Camilla was the most important game in CCA’s gridiron history. The winner would likely get a…
A depleted Coffee Trojan team battled another long road trip, injuries, and even an allegedly intoxicated official enroute to a 35-25 win over the Veterans Warhawks Friday night at Freedom Field in Warner Robins. The win moved the Trojans to 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in region play. It also punched Coffee’s ticket to the playoffs as the #4 seed. The Trojans started backup quarterback Tyler Dowling then lost him to a non-throwing shoulder injury in the second half, forcing sophomore Tommy Stanley into action. Running back KJ Debruce left the game in the first half and return man/two-way…
Last Saturday, Charleston Southern defensive back Jayden Hancock nabbed the second interception of his college football career and Tulane running back Maurice Turner returned to action following an ankle injury. Hancock, a true freshman, has had a solid season for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. He picked off his first pass early in the season then intercepted another Saturday in the Bucs’ 29-24 win at Western Illinois. He also recorded three tackles and one pass breakup. Teammate Anthony Paulk also had three tackles and a tackle for a loss. In the Big Easy, Turner was finally able to get back into…
