The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office recently celebrated one of its most dedicated employees. Jail officer Lamar Brockington has decided to retire after 36 years of service. Over the course of his career, he has served under five different sheriff’s, multiple jail supervisors, and even at two different facilities. Through it all, Lamar remained a dedicated and loyal officer. He carried himself with a steady and humble spirit, and has been a mentor, friend, and a pillar of integrity who legacy will live far beyond his last shift. The Coffee Lady Trojans are off and running  under first-year head coach (and Coffee High alumna) Katy Lott. A week into the season, the Lady Trojans are 1-1 with a win over Bacon County (9-2) in the preseason scrimmage and Ware County (11-3) in the season opener. Thursday morning, deputies responded to a Miller Road address in response to a gunshot wound. The victim, a female, had been transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center via private vehicle with life-threatening injuries. Officers blocked a portion of Miller Road in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Sheriff Fred Cole asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct the investigation. The charges against three individuals who had been indicted on misdemeanor charges in connection with the death of Vann Brown on January 1, 2020, at a party in Ambrose have been dropped. According to an order filed on August 5, 2025, the charges against Daniel Anderson, Morgan Lewis, and Corey Waylon Johnson have been dropped due to prosecutorial discretion. Deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45-year-old David Metts on July 14, 2025, after he was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute during which he fired a .22 caliber handgun into his ceiling. The call came in around 9 a.m., according to the incident report. Officers responded to the scene and found Metts, who was intoxicated and not in a good mood, according to the report. Monday night, officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper from the Georgia State Patrol investigated a vehicle v. bicycle accident on Highway 441 South. The accident happened just before 9 p.m. The bicycle was traveling south on the righthand side of Highway 441 in front of Robert Fender Chevrolet when a Ford F-150 from Atkinson County struck the bike. The rider was knocked off the bike and suffered visible but non-life-threatening injuries. He was alert and talking to officers and EMTs while they were tending to him. A 24-year-old was arrested and jailed after he allegedly sold a car that wasn’t his to an unsuspecting buyer for $500. An incident report from the sheriff’s office states that on July 12, 2025, an individual reported that he had bought a vehicle from Mike O’Brian Kelly, 24, of Douglas, for $500. Kelly told the buyer that the title was in the glove compartment. When the buyer got home with the car, the title wasn’t there. He contacted Kelly and asked him about it. Saturday afternoon, Coffee County firefighters responded to a devastating house fire in Baymeadows that resulted in a total loss of the home. Residents were there at the time of the blaze but thankfully, no injuries were reported. Around 6:30 p.m., the call came in and multiple units were dispatched to the location. When firefighters arrived, the home was fully involved. The fire started near the back of the house. Early speculation centered around a lightning strike as the cause of the fire. On July 26, 2025 at around 1 a.m., deputies responded to the boat ramp at Baymeadows in response to a domestic incident that ended in two alleged physical altercations.
