Carla Harper Paulk, age 54, of Willacoochee, Ga passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Paulk was born on August 8, 1962, in Ambrose, Ga to Neva Evelyn Nugent Harper and the late George Harper. Several local firefighters from the Douglas Fire Department (DFD) visited Indian Creek Elementary kindergarten classes on Wednesday to educate them about fire safety. South Georgia State College (SGSC) recently became a community partner in the Supporting Sisters program through the Southeast Health District (SEHD). The Supporting Sisters program is a project to educate the community on the positive impact of breastfeeding. It also provides assistance and support to all women wanting to breastfeed. The program is funded by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which has provided a dedicated breastfeeding room in the Educational Building on SGSC’s Waycross Campus. The room is available to SGSC students, faculty, and staff and provides mothers the opportunity to breastfeed their babies or pump milk for…

Jeannie Sweat, Marketing & Activities Director at Manor House, was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Sweat spoke about the senior living center located on West Gordon Street, which is under new management and is now known as Manor House. The 63rd Preservation Society will host a farewell banquet for the 63rd AAF-FTD reunion with special guest speaker, Lt. Col. Christine Mau, on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Douglas Golf and Country Club. Lt. Col. Christine Mau is the first female F-35 fighter jet pilot. A state of the art fighter jet, the F-35 Lightning II is described as one of the most technologically complex planes ever built. Prior to flying the F-35, Lt. Col. The South Georgia State College swim team opened their season last Saturday with an impressive start. The team traveled to Thomasville for a four-team meet against host Thomas University, Keiser University and Point University. SGSC’s women won the meet against the four-year schools and the men’s team finished third. Keiser won the men’s side of the competition.
