Dear Editor: For three successive years our legislature has devoted considerable time, energy and resources in their attempt to pass into law what is commonly referred to as a “religious freedom bill.” This year a bill was finally submitted to Governor Deal. Much to the displeasure of the religious right Governor Deal vetoed the bill. A softball conference doubleheader March 30 turned out to be two hard fought battles between the South Georgia State Lady Hawks (21-6, 5-1) and the East Georgia State Lady Bobcats. The first game in the series ended with a 6-5 win by SGSC after eleven innings of play. Game two was another long game of eight innings with the Lady Hawks coming out on top by a score of 2-1. Mr. James Leroy Corbean, age 63, of Douglas passed away Tuesday evening, March 29, 2016, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. He was born February 8, 1953 to the late James L. Corbean, Sr. and the late Mary Ruth Barlow Corbean. Mr. Corbean, a native of Xenia, Ohio, was a Transportation Safety Director with Orgill Corporation. Tire Amnesty Day will allow citizens of Douglas to dispose of up to eight tires per resident at the City Pole Yard located on S. Pearl Avenue on April 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. He was known for his devotion to his family, his community of Ambrose and his firm belief in God.
