The CCA Patriots clinched the region championship with a 5-3 win over the Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors Friday afternoon at Southwest Georgia. The win capped a great week for the Patriots that saw them win two other games by a combined score of 31-0 over Georgia Christian (15-0) and CHESS Academy (16-0). CCA is 18-8 and has three regular season games remaining. The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Patriots, however, answered two innings later with a four-run fourth inning. A 29-year-old Douglas man is in jail after he allegedly crashed a vehicle after stealing it from a local Dollar General store. On April 14, 2024, the victim pulled up to the Dollar General on McNeil Drive and ran in to get a few items. He turned off his vehicle, a black 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, but left the keys inside, according to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department. On Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at approximately 5:06 p.m., Kendre Gibson Jr., of Douglas, was shot multiple times at 921 West Ward Street. Officers from the Douglas Police Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located multiple bystanders outside the business attempting to aid Gibson. A traffic stop that resulted from a vehicle not stopping completely at a stop sign landed a Douglas woman in jail on illegal drug charges. On April 9, 2024, at around 4:30 p.m., a drug unit officer was sitting near the four-way stop at McKinnon Road and Sidney Adams Road when he saw a white Chevrolet Colorado roll through the stop sign, according to a sheriff’s office report. One man is in custody and another is wanted by authorities in connection with a brazen homicide that took place in Homerville on Sunday, April 14, 2024. GBI agents have arrested and charged Phillip White, age 33, of Homerville, with Aggravated Assault in connection to the death of Raheem Poole, age 25, of Homerville. Thirsty Thursday turned into Fisticuffs Friday for a couple of Douglas men last week. According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, two men, Matthew Bowen, 24, and Cameron Barton, 19, ended up on a fistfight at 2003 West Forest Drive near midnight on Thursday, April 4, 2024. The altercation landed both in jail but they quickly bonded out. The CCA Patriots split Friday’s games during their stint in Cocoa Beach, Florida, winning game one against the Fleming County Panthers 3-2 then dropping game two to the East Carter Raiders 3-1.
