When a Douglas police officer made a traffic stop at North Gaskin Avenue and McNeil Drive on February 24, 2026, he intended to give the driver a warning for failure to stop at a stop sign. However, that changed when he saw the driver, identified as Lestrick Reed, 24, of Douglas, smoking a blunt in the car during the stop. The report says that just before 4 p.m. on February 24, a DPD officer saw Reed turn right on to North Gaskin Avenue off of McNeil Drive without coming to a complete stop at the stop sign. The Coffee Lady Trojans’ 2025-2026 season ended Friday afternoon at the Georgia State University gym with a Final Four loss to the Milton Lady Eagles. Milton won 59-48. Milton’s defense proved a little too suffocating for Coffee. The Lady Trojans had trouble with the Lady Eagles’ zone and never could find their footing offensively. At one point in the second half, Coffee went on a strong run and got within two points after trailing by 14. But they never could overtake Milton for good. Player of the Game Jasmine Porter scored a team high 29 points. She also grabbed seven…
The Coffee Trojans finished the first week of region play with a 2-1 mark after splitting a doubleheader with the Lee County Trojans Friday night at Charles Wilson Field in Douglas. Coffee won game one 5-4 in eight innings but couldn’t keep up with Lee in game two, falling 10-3. Lee got to Coffee starter Gavin McElroy early, starting things off with three hits and a walk that led to two runs. A double play and a strikeout ended the rally. Coffee tied things up in the bottom of the inning when Barrett Harrell doubled with one out, scoring Ben…
When people think of CCA’s Blake Bryant, his pitching is what typically comes to mind first. Friday night, however, it was his bat that did the damage. The Patriots traveled to St. Simons to face the Frederica Academy Knights in a battle between defending state champions (CCA, Class A; Frederica, Class 3A). The two teams were tied 2-2 until the top of the seventh inning when CCA broke the game open with eight runs, including a grand slam by Bryant that effectively ended the game as soon as the ball left his bat. The Knights scored two in the first…
Qualifying for the 2026 election cycle has ended. A few incumbents are running unopposed, a few others have opposition, one incumbent decided not to run, and one race didn’t have anyone qualify at all. Two county commission races are on the ballot – Districts 1 and 3. Neither incumbent in those elections, George McIver (District 1) and AJ Dovers (District 3), have any opposition. The Board of Education elections are a different story. There will be at least one new BOE member and the other two on the ballot will have opposition. District 1 incumbent Leola Johnson did not qualify.…
It was a history-making week for the CCA Patriots. For the first time ever, the Patriots played under the lights in their home stadium. It didn’t hurt that they came away with wins over Trinity Christian (7-0) and Frederica Academy (2-1) in front of a big home crowd (with a few interested scouts in the stands, especially for the Frederica game, that boosted attendance). In Tuesday’s season opener, the Patriots were up 5-0 after two and added a run in the fourth and fifth to cruise to a two-hit shutout over Trinity. Blake Bryant, Landon Williams, and Thomas Gentry each…
It didn’t take long for the Coffee Trojans to pick up their first region win. And they did it Tuesday on the road against a solid Lee County Trojan team that never held a lead against Coffee. The top four hitters were a combined 9-16 and scored six of Coffee’s nine runs. They also drove in three. Coffee defeated Lee 9-4. In the first, Ben Fussell led off with an infield single. Jimmy Timothy followed with a double to score Fussell and a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Lee started things off with a hit by pitch,…
