Beginning March 4, 2015, the City of Douglas will begin using an automated phone calling system to inform utility customers of a delinquency. Once this automated system is active, the City of Douglas will no longer mail delinquent notices to past due utility customers. Using an automated phone calling system will speed up the process of a customer being notified of a past due/delinquent status. It is very important that the city has the best phone number to reach customers. Therefore, the city is requesting customers to confirm their phone number on file by simply dialing 311 or dialing 912-384-3302.…

Kenneth Morgan, Private Fleet Safety Manager at Walmart DC6810 recently presented a check to West Green Elementary School in the amount of $2,407.03. The money was raised by safe driving on the part of Walmart truck drivers and was received by Anne Peterson, Assistant Principal at West Green Elementary. Elected officials from Douglas were among nearly 800 city officials to attend the Georgia Municipal Association’s annual Mayors’ Day Conference in Atlanta Jan. 23-26. The annual conference provides city officials with an opportunity to learn more about legislation under consideration at the Georgia Capitol, attend training sessions, and hear from state leaders. “Attending Mayors’ Day gives us an opportunity to hear about legislation affecting our cities so we can then discuss these issues with our legislators, and it also gives us a voice in shaping GMA’s legislative policies,” said Mayor James Dennis. Norma Luke, age 93, of Douglas, GA passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Southern Senior Living following an extended illness. Mrs. Luke was born on August 10, 1921, in Broxton, GA to the late William Floyd Lewis and Emma Jane Merritt Lewis. Mrs. Luke was the oldest member of Satilla Baptist Church at the time of her death. She retired in 1973 from the local telephone company after 30 years of service.
